McKinley JROTC Returns to Competition

From Ltc. Erik Nagy:

The McKinley Army JROTC "Bulldog Battalion" competed at the Kenmore-Garfield High School Army JROTC Drill Classic in Akron on Saturday, November 6th, and finished with overall third-place honors. It was the first drill competition for the Bulldog cadets in almost two years.

Twenty-two McKinley cadets competed against teams from Kenmore-Garfield High School, Youngstown East High School, and Perry High School. Events included Varsity and First-Year Color Guard, Varsity and First-Year Unarmed Drill, Academic Challenge, Raider Team competition (athletics), and individual drill.

Bringing home first place was our Academic Challenge Team consisting of team captain and senior Andrew Stronko, juniors Larry Merriweather, Sophia Gilmore, and Kaitlynn Martin, and freshman Zoe Barrett. The Bulldog Varsity Color Guard and Drill Teams both earned third-place finishes. Junior Saniah McDew earned second place in individual drill, competing against over 100 cadets. Overall, the Bulldog Battalion was awarded three trophies and every participating cadet received a ribbon for his/her uniform.

We are very proud of our cadets for the hours of practice leading up to the event and the high motivation and outstanding effort during the competition.
