CCSD Updates 2021-22 School Calendar
CANTON - On Monday, Nov. 15, the Canton City Schools Board of Education, under the recommendation of Superintendent Jeff Talbert, voted to add Nov. 24, 2021, as a day off for students and staff. This is the day before the Thanksgiving holiday and extends the break to six days.
Along with this day off for the district, the board voted to add staff workdays on Jan. 14, Feb. 17, March 17, and May 3, 2022. Students will not have classes on these days, but staff will report to their buildings. (May 3 was previously a virtual learning day.)
Talbert expressed his gratitude to everyone for their efforts thus far in the school year and acknowledged the stress and extra work many are experiencing. Due to the nationwide staff shortages, as well as the lack of substitute teachers, many are covering classes during their planning time and taking their work home.
“Our staff has put forth a Herculean effort in educating and supporting our students, families, and one another during a time that we hope can be called the post-pandemic phase,” Talbert said. “I hope that this much-needed comp day shows that their work is appreciated and that everyone enjoys an extra day before the holiday.”
Talbert added that he appreciates the understanding and patience of our families in receiving this calendar adjustment with short notice. The district plans to send meals home with students on Tuesday, Nov. 23, to cover Wednesday’s breakfast and lunch.
