The McKinley High School Interact Club recently collected $278.68 in spare change for students in Kenya to purchase masks. The Rotary Club of Nakuru, Kenya, District 9212 reached out for help since their students could not get the masks they needed to attend school. Covid is a severe problem there, and the students are not allowed to attend school without a mask. Some children in the community have been found collecting used facemasks in the streets and dump sites which is very risky. When Kenya re-opened schools this past year, the Rotary Club of Nakuru supported the schools with hand-washing stations, face masks, sanitizers, and temperature guns. Funds are now too low to provide additional masks for the students. The Nakuru Rotary Club will use the collected funds to contract with local women and others to make student masks. Interact Club focuses on building leadership skills and participating in local and international community service projects. Their next service project is creating watercolor cards for nursing home residents.
