The Board of Education has approved the Design for Excellence Restructuring Plan for the 2021-22 School year. The plan, said Superintendent Jeff Talbert, will gain efficiencies for the district in a manner that allows it to improve teaching and learning, improve courses and extracurricular/co-curricular offerings, and create more choices for students and families.

As a result of community and staff feedback through several virtual meetings, the plan was revised to have the AIM Academy moved to the Belden building instead of the McGregor building, as originally proposed. McGregor will now be an intermediate school housing grades 4-6. Patrick will become a K-6 building.

“Typically when a district wants to save money, it loses important things,” Talbert explained. “We don’t want that. With this plan, we will become more efficient, which will allow us to offer more services, rather than cut programs and courses."

Talbert said the research and fact-gathering through building meetings and surveys began last year and have continued through the 2020-21 school year. While the board approved the plan, he emphasized that virtual community meetings will happen for the Belden and Patrick parents on March 2 at 6:30 p.m., and AIM families on March 4 at 6:30 p.m. Log-on information will be posted to the website 15 minutes prior to the meetings.
