CCS Leadership presents reopening plan for 2020-21
The district leadership team shared the tentative plans for the start of the 2020-21 school year.
As of now, following the guidelines given to us by the Ohio Department of Education, Governor DeWine, and our local health departments, the Canton City School DIstrict plans the following:
Grades PreK-5 will return to school tentatively August 24 and August 25 and attend every day, all day. Our transition grades (PreK, Kindergarten, and third grade will start on Monday) joined by everyone else on Tuesday at the elementary buildings, should the board approve our plan. Students who ride the bus will sit two to a seat and be required to wear a mask. Students will wear a mask during transition periods and when social distancing is not possible. We feel we can seat students at a social distance and not require masks when seated. Breakfast and lunch will be served in the classrooms.
Grades 6-12 will attend class in person two days per week also beginning the week of August 24. Students will be divided into two groups, based alphabetically, with exceptions given to blended families with different last names. Group A will attend school on two designated days and Group B will attend on two different days with all participating in remote learning on at-home days. Masks will be required on busses, during transitions and in classrooms when social distancing guidelines cannot be maintained.
Teachers and staff members will be required to wear a mask at all times. Teachers will have the option of using a face shield while teaching, but must maintain a social distance from students.
All students will have the option of virtual school only. Designated teachers will teach online classes and be responsible for ensuring those students are being served remotely. Interactive lessons will be designed and delivered by CCS teachers. We feel that this option is possible now that we have 1:1 technology available at all grade levels. Surveys for preferences will be sent out soon.
