McKINLEY CADET HONORED AT ROTC DINNER

Congratulations to McKinley junior Cadet Naki Weir who was recently honored at the Military Officers Association of America, Ohio Western Reserve Chapter’s annual ROTC/JROTC Cadet Recognition Dinner.

Cadet Weir attended with his mother Phalana Stewart, and his ROTC Instructor, Lieutenant Colonel Erik D. Nagy

Lt. Col. Nagy said that although this is Weir’s first year as an Army JROTC cadet, he has made a significant impact on the program.  “He is a Class Leader and has earned an "A" average. He is a key member of the Army JROTC Raider Team, leading them to a third place finish at the most recent drill competition.”

Cadet Weir will be attending Army JROTC summer camp in June and then return for his senior year and hold a senior staff position in the "Bulldog Battalion".

The annual MOAA ROTC/JROTC Cadet Recognition Dinner includes honorees from Kent State University Army and Air Force ROTC, the University of Akron Army ROTC, Buchtel High School Air Force JROTC, East Community Learning Center Marine Corps JROTC, Green High School Air Force JROTC, Kenmore-Garfield High School Army JROTC, Ellet High School Navy JROTC, Perry High School Army JROTC, and McKinley High School Army JROTC.

The event was held at Guy's Party Center in Akron and included a buffet dinner, guest speaker from the University of Akron Army ROTC program, and an awards ceremony.  During the awards ceremony, Cadet Weir was presented the MOAA Medal and Certificate for being an outstanding cadet during his junior year of Army JROTC. McKinley received a $100.00 donation to our JROTC program from the MOAA.
