REPRESENTATIVE OF OH CONGRESSMAN GIBBS VISITS ADULT ED
This week, the district hosted Victoria VanBuskirk on a tour of our Adult Career and Technical Education Department. She is the Field Representative from the office of U.S. Congressman Bob Gibbs. Coordinator Beth Starrett was proud to introduce students and faculty in many of the programs, including the Medical Assistant, Practical Nursing, and Nursing Assistant programs. Students at the former Souers Middle School building showed off some of the new equipment like the simulated pregnant patient and the simulated child patient. She also visited the downtown Adult College and Career Readiness Center where she got to sit in on a class for English learners. Lastly, she got to meet some of our McKinley High School Culinary Arts students and enjoy lunch at the All City Grille. During her discussions with Starrett, Aspire Coordinator Jane Meyer, and supervisor Marilyn Van Alman, they talked about the importance of restoring funding to the Ohio Technical Centers (OTCs), such as CCSD ACTE, as the state budget for OTCs has decreased over 30% in 18 years, while the need for credentialed workers is greater than ever before. All programs at CCSD take 11 months or less, which means that our students can become part of the workforce in 1/4 the time, and for 1/4 the cost, than it takes traditional college students.
