When will we get bus stop information?

What are the rules around visitors at school?
Posted by:We will not allow visitors in the school. For cases when parents need to drop off something to their student, in most cases we will offer drive-up services. Parents will be required to call when they arrive.

Will all teachers be given thermometers to take temperature scans of students?
Posted by:No, our teachers will be trained to recognize the symptoms of COVID-19, but they will not be taking temperatures.

Will teachers and staff be required to take a 14 day quarantine if a student within their classroom?
Posted by:The Canton Health Department will guide us through contact monitoring to determine risk. We do not anticipate teachers and staff needing to quarantine as long as they maintain a social distance and wear a face-covering.

What are the options/plans for students on the 504 plan?
Posted by:Students with a 504 plan have the same options as other students in their grade bands. Whether the child attends school face-to-face or virtual, they will continue to receive the accommodations listed on their 504 plan.

How will face coverings be handled for students with special needs?
Posted by:We understand that some students have a disability or medical condition that will prevent the child from wearing a mask. There are allowances for these situations with documentation. Please contact the Office of Special Education to help you through this situation.

How will kids at home get their food?
Posted by:Families will be asked to order food one week ahead of time and meals will be packaged as a five day box of breakfast and lunch. Forms, available on our website homepage, must be completed by Wednesday at 4 p.m. in order to receive meals the following Wednesday.

Will students be allowed to participate in sports or extracurricular activities if they are online?
Posted by:Students will be picked up at satellite stops in each quadrant of the city to get to practice each afternoon if they are not physically at the school building.

Will teaching be live and interactive or recordings with a forum for questions?
Posted by:Teachers will hold classes live via the internet, but will also tape those classes for their virtual students who need to log on at a different time than the class.

Will there be structure to high school virtual learning?
Posted by:Blended 9, 10, 11 - English, History, Spanish will be on the first day of block. Math, Sciences and extra college class will be on the second day. 100% remote learners will be asked to check in to certain classes when that class meets.

What will be the Schedule for a student in career tech?
Posted by:Juniors in career tech programs will take their CTE classes on the first day of the block. Juniors will only be at the downtown campus on this day. Seniors will take their CTE classes on the second day of the block. Seniors will only be at the downtown campus on this day. There will not be a mid-day shuttle between buildings.

Will seniors have services, ie, college apps, scholarships, career planning, etc?
Posted by:We will still be providing these services, although, at this time, they will be offered remotely. Counselors will be in touch with students/families and notify them of upcoming remote college visits, scholarship opportunities, job opportunities, and workforce preparation. Communication between senior families and the school will be of the utmost importance.

Will the kids have a set schedule to follow throughout the day?
Posted by:The students who are in the buildings will have a schedule to follow. Students who are at home will have the opportunity to log in to face-to-face classes or can work on their lessons and assignments at their own pace.

Is there a dedicated teacher just to teach remote classes?
Posted by:Teachers of grades 6-12 will be responsible for their remote and F2F students. Both lesson delivery models will cover the same content, but, at times, in different ways.

Will there be recess?
Posted by:Yes, students in grades PreK through 5 will have recess. Recess will only be available to middle school students at AIM. MS students at AIM will have recess in accordance with the building protocol and following social distancing. 6-8 grade students at Arts will not have a formal designated recess time. Students will have scheduled outdoor learning opportunities throughout the day.

How will grades 6-12 students eat lunch?
Posted by:Students will go to the cafeteria to make their lunch offering selections. Cafeteria staff are required to be masked and students are required to wear masks in the serving area. Meals will be given to students in to-go containers. Students will eat lunch in their classroom.
Take home meals: Three days of breakfast and lunch will be sent home with students on Tuesday and Friday to cover meals when students are remote.

Will the students doing the 6-12 blended model switch classes throughout the day?
Posted by:Because of the number of different classes students take, there will be times when students will need to switch classes. We are designing schedules that will keep these passing times to a minimum and they will be staggered. Signs and arrows will be posted to keep student traffic flowing safely and maintaining social distance.

How are the dance classes, art classes, music classes going to be taught remotely?
Posted by:There are many different ways to perform, even in a remote environment. Utilizing unique apps designed for fine arts instruction, students can create and display their talents. Teachers will conduct online classes and hold individual online conferences to assess student work. The marching band and dance team has been meeting and practicing since July 13.

Will the 2 day face to face teachers also be the remote teachers for students in grades 6-12?
Posted by:Yes, they will be the same teachers.

How will the 3 remote days work? Only during set hours? Or lessons assigned and have a due date?
Posted by:Students will be assigned lessons and assignments in weekly chunks to work on at their own pace. Assignments will have due dates. When students are at home, they will have the opportunity to participate in live Google Meet classes or can watch the recorded live classes at another time.

When/how will students in 6/12 know which two days they will attend school?
Posted by:Students will be told their two assigned days when they pick up their iPads. These days, either Monday/Tuesday OR Thursday/Friday, will stay the same.

What will be different about remote learning this fall as compared to spring?
Posted by:Students will do the majority of their class work from home completing Mckinley-teacher designed and taught lessons. Students will have the opportunity to log on and participate in the face-to-face classes or they can work independently at their own pace. Students will have several authentic interactions with teachers throughout the week in the form of actual classes, classwork submissions, and emails. Teachers will have had extensive professional development on virtual lesson design, iPad app integration, and standards alignment. They will also be planning weekly lessons together in order to provide consistent content to all students. Teachers will provide at least two hours of Teacher Support Time to answer questions and assist with assignments. In the spring, teachers mostly assigned work and parents needed to teach the content. Will teachers/students be required to engage in google meets, etc in order for teachers to actually teach, not just post assignments?

Are students who have reasons they cannot wear a mask, possibly going to be in my child's classroom?
Posted by:If a child can not wear a mask due to medical reasons, a shield or some sort of PPE will be recommended. This is a case sensitive issue and will be handled on an individual basis.

How were you able to follow social distance guidelines at the elementary school?
Posted by:We are able to follow social distancing guidelines due to several families deciding remote services for their child(ren). No new staff has had to be hired.

Will preschoolers be seated at their desk all day? Will they be engaged in small group learning?
Posted by:Preschoolers are not built to sit at desks all day. They require a lot of activity and engagement, so classrooms have been designed to accommodate this, keeping in mind social distancing. Small group teaching and learning will take place, again, with masks and social distancing in place.

Posted by:All PreK-5 students have the option for remote learning 5 days a week or face to face learning. Remote learning will be a live teacher facilitating the learning. Details are still being worked through.

What time will preschoolers start their day and end their face to face day?
Posted by:Full Day = 8:30-3:05
Half Day = 8:20-10:50 (am)/12:15-2:45 (pm) -
How long will preschoolers have to wear a mask before they get a break?
Posted by:Preschoolers will be initially engaged in developmentally appropriate discussions on why we have to wear a mask, what it helps us with, and when we can take breaks. Formal breaks will be conducted throughout the day, however, students will be encouraged to tell a teacher if they need a break, and the teacher and assistant will also ask students periodically if they need a break.

Will a full-time option be offered for 6-12 students who want to be in school every day?

Posted by:We will not be having field trips this year and all book fairs will be held virtually.

Is the iPad the only device students can use for virtual learning?
Posted by:Students may use any technology available to them if it allows access to their classwork.
