Preparation for Paramedic training. EMT-B is a pre-requisite to entrance into paramedic training courses. (Paramedic training opens up further career opportunities in jobs abroad, air medical transport, mobile intensive care units, search and rescue teams and hospitals.) The EMT- B Course The EMT-B course includes classroom lecture by qualified instructors active in the field of EMS; "hands on" practical skills training using the same type of equipment used in the field; and required clinical experience in a local hospital emergency room. Accreditation #043711 Class Schedule August September January Mercy Medical Center March May EMT- B Refresher This thirty hour course is based on the new EMT-B curriculum and reviews all skills practiced by the EMT-B. This course fulfills the continuing education requirement needed to recertify as an EMT-B in the state of Ohio every three (3) years. Classes can be arranged by individual departments / services or information about course offerings in the area maybe obtained by calling Adult Community Education. First Responder Course Responders are a part of the Emergency Medical Services system in Ohio. First Responder certification is not a prerequisite for EMT-B training and is not intended for those seeking employment in the field of EMS. This course is ideal for law enforcement officers, volunteer fire fighters, or anyone likely to be the first to respond to an emergency. The forty-hour First Responder course emphasizes the recognition of an emergency situation, the initial assessment of a victim and basic life support skills which can be administered prior to the arrival of an ambulance at the scene.
