Medical Assisting
Accredited by the American Association of Medical Assistants
The Medical Assisting Program provides adults with skills and abilities needed to work as assistants to physicians. Medical assistants help physicians with examinations, treatments, and office surgery; perform diagnostic tests and simple laboratory procedures; and sterilize equipment. They also receive patients; prepare medical histories; maintain medical records; and handle correspondence, telephone communications, fees and collections. Students gain practical experience in the clinical portion of the curriculum.
JOB PREPARATION: This program prepares students for entry-level positions as a medical assistant in a physician's private practice, public service, hospital-based outpatient clinics, or medical laboratories. The program serves as a solid foundation for various allied health professions.

Patient Care Technician
The health care industry is changing rapidly, making every effort to contain costs while they continue to provide quality care. One trend that has emerged is the training of acute care workers to perform skills formerly performed by individuals specially trained in a narrow field. For example, many health care facilities are training a variety of health care workers to draw blood specimens which was once a skill performed by licensed phlebotomists.

Pharmacy Technician
Pharmacy Technician -- the latest and greatest profession for the high-energy individual interested in being a team player in the healthcare field. Become certified as a Pharmacy Technician through the PTCB, Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. You'll gain recognition and earn a successful job position! This program includes medical terminology, extensive mathematical calculations, pharmaceutical classifications, and basic pharmacology knowledge. Emergency Medical Technician EMT-B
Careers in EMS: Careers in all areas of health care are expanding and Emergency Medical Services is no exception. If the idea of helping people in a time of crisis, daily job challenges, working outside of an office and responding to emergency situations appeals to you, consider a career in EMS.
Certification as an EMT-B offers:
Preparation for Paramedic training. EMT-B is a pre-requisite to entrance into paramedic training courses. (Paramedic training opens up further career opportunities in jobs abroad, air medical transport, mobile intensive care units, search and rescue teams and hospitals.)
The National Registry of EMT's: EMT-B qualifying exam in the State of Ohio is The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians which enhances your mobility as an EMT to other areas of the United States.

EMT- B Refresher
(Prerequisite: Current EMT Certification)
This thirty hour course is based on the new EMT-B curriculum and reviews all skills practiced by the EMT-B. This course fulfills the continuing education requirement needed to recertify as an EMT-B in the state of Ohio every three (3) years.
Classes can be arranged by individual departments / services or information about course offerings in the area maybe obtained by calling Adult Community Education.
First Responder Course
Responders are a part of the Emergency Medical Services system in Ohio.
First Responder certification is not a prerequisite for EMT-B training and is not intended for those seeking employment in the field of EMS. This course is ideal for law enforcement officers, volunteer fire fighters, or anyone likely to be the first to respond to an emergency.
The forty-hour First Responder course emphasizes the recognition of an emergency situation, the initial assessment of a victim and basic life support skills which can be administered prior to the arrival of an ambulance at the scene.
