GED Registration and Classes
GED classes are FREE to adults 18 years of age and older.
Get started on your GED by clicking here to find out

GED Online Classes
Do you have access to a computer and the Internet? Do you have a television and VCR or access to one? Are you organized, a good reader and have up-to-date computer skills? Then GED Online classes can help you study for your GED by using a computer, video tapes, workbooks and interaction with a teacher through email.

Bridges Classes
If you have been out of school for a long time and plan to take an employment test such as a civil service exam, or if you are planning to take a college, technical school or other training entrance exam, Bridges classes can help All classes and materials are free.

 

Even Start Family Literacy Registration and Classes
In Even Start classes, you can improve
your reading and math skills and get your GED;
you can get new ideas to help your children succeed in school;
and you can prepare for employment.
Even Start classes are free to adults 18 years old and older
who have preschool or elementary aged children.

Basic Skills Registration and Classes
Learn math skills for banking and shopping,
learn to read with understanding, learn work skills,
improve decision-making skills, and gain communications skills.
Basic and life skills classes are free to adults 18 years old and older.

English for Speakers of Other Languages Registration and Classes
Learn to read, write, and speak English. Learn about American
customs and valuable life and work skills. English as a Second
Language classes are free to foreign-born Stark County residents
18 years of age and over.

Workplace Literacy
Learning center can be set up right on your company's location.
You can schedule classes to accommodate multiple work shifts.

high-quality literacy services so all Americans can develop essential basic skills.

 








What You Can Do About Adult Literacy

You can volunteer...Adult tutors are always needed for reading and math. You'll receive free training. If you are interested in helping others to learn to read or do math, English, or learn about history, Call Donna Fowler at 330-456-9590.

You can be a vital part of...The Mayor's Literacy Commission and help raise awareness for our community's literacy problem. Call Patricia Faulhaber at 330-438-2559 ext. 6 for more information.

Even Start Family Literacy Registration & Classes

 
If you are a parent or caregiver with young children, you can come to school together. While your children are in preschool or elementary classes, you work on improving your basic skills in the adult classroom. Free tutoring services are available for your children. Use the open computer lab to work on your homework, help your children with their homework or just have fun learning. While earning your GED you will also gain employability skills. Even Start can fulfill the work requirement for welfare recipients. Students can receive assistance with transportation and childcare.

Basic Skills Registration and Classes

Classes are available for those adults at all reading levels (beginning and intermediate) who want to improve their skills in reading and writing. Classes are also available for math used in everyday living and working. Instruction includes assistance with goal setting and developing employability skills. You can also learn valuable life management skills such as banking, shopping, and
communication skills.

To Register for Basic Skills Classes:

Registration is held every Monday (except holidays)
in the Adult Learning Center at the Stark County District Library
at 715 Market Avenue North in downtown Canton.

No appointment is necessary.

English for Speakers of Other Languages
Registration & Classes

Speakers of other languages will learn to speak, read, and write English. You can learn in group instruction and in individual tutoring. You will learn about American culture and make new friends. If you would like to prepare for your citizenship, there are classes available to help. Daytime and evening classes are available.

To Register for English for Speakers of Other Languages Classes:

Registration is held every Monday (except holidays)
at the English Learning Center, 110 - 15th. Street NE

No appointment is necessary. Registration takes less than an hour.

2 ways to study...you can choose:

1. To attend classes.

2. To attend the drop-in English Learning Center on your own flexible schedule.
Registered ESL students can drop in at the English Learning Center at 110 - 15th Street NE in Canton. The lab is open several mornings, afternoons, and evenings a week. At the Center, you can receive free one-on-one tutoring, work in small groups, or use computers to help you learn to read, write, and speak English. Students can attend ESL classes and then visit the English Learning Center for additional help in learning English faster. Or, students can attend just the English Learning Center if regular classes don't fit their schedules.

Or, you can do both for faster learning.

Workplace Literacy

Learning centers can be set up right on your company's location. You can schedule classes to accommodate multiple work shifts. Services are cost effective and courses can be customized to provide the training needed by your employees. Choose from GED preparation, math improvement, reading and writing enhancement or English for Speakers of Other Languages classes.
